Return to post humanity: I suck at space hedgehogs

Greetings, Fellow commanders.

It's been a while.

A lot has happened since I last posted. (got our sovereignty back for one thing, last time I'll mention it promise)

I've had an educational but ultimately frustrating stint of playing as the Shaltari. An interesting force with many unique mechanics and nuances, ultimately the E10 pillow fistedness of the faction got the better of me, so I am returning to my original faction with renewed vigour, and fresh appreciation for all the beautiful E11 we have access to as proud post humans!

I've also grown better as a painter in that time, so I felt it was time my army was stripped and started anew, with a fresh colour scheme.

I've got some of updates to make retroactively it seems, I want to at least recount in summary my UKGE experience, but I wanted to start off by dropping both some pics of my Shaltari (currently up for sale) and go over the stripping process I begun today.

Scourgin' on a Sunday: Starter Set + Opressor Commander

Greets again fellow Commanders! Today is sunday, and my brother Tom's Scourge starter set arrived this week, and has been waiting to assimilate some paint.

Tom's new to Dropzone commander, although he's played many of the war games I have over the last few years. We mostly spend weekends painting and modelling together, since coming back from uni it's kind of been how we've spent quality time.

Anyway, Tom's usually a goodie two shoes (sorry bro :P) and plays good guys (he's a big Cygnar fan for you warmahordes players out there), So this is a big change of pace for him, nevertheless he was just as enthusiastic as ever to get these evil little jellyfish ready for Karl's slow grow league.

We assembled everything Friday, so we hit the ground running today with painting. Step by Step and finished pics included, So click past the cut and enjoy!

Dropfleet Commander: Admiral Beta Test Day

Greets fellow commanders! I have just returned from the admiral beta test in sunny Croydon! Was an absolute blast to finally get our hands on Dropfleet Commanders rules, let alone some swiftly cast up resin versions of the minis we're all waiting for.

The event had a huge turnout and the atmosphere was really jovial and excited. The Hawk guys had their swag stand set up as well, and well, in DZC terms, I've sorted out my poor AA coverage issue.

I'm such a tease.

Obviously I can't say much about the specifics of the rules, nor can I post statlines and the like, but I can give my honest impressions.

Ildari's Irregulars: The Mercury: Part 2. A Mercurial performance

Greets fellow Commanders!

Well, due to something of a late start and a ticking clock it wasn't conducive to document a full batrep this time (I'm borrowing a decent camera for next time however)

But here are the cliff notes to the battle and the Mercury's contribution in particular.
(please note, this is a cut down, anecdotal account of the game, due to being pushed for time and not having access to my Camera or note taking supplies it has to take this form, in future accounts of games will have dedicated preparations made.)

I have clearly done something to enrage the dice gods, as almost every roll I made went against me.

This happened more than once, I'm not kidding.

Click past the jump for the tasty words.

Ildari's Irregulars: The Mercury

Hello again fellow Commanders, I've decided I want to use this blog to spotlight some of the lesser used units in Dropzone commander, this may be because the current meta has uplifted a unit that fills a similar role or slot for your faction, leaving it a less desired choice, or it could be that the faction has moved away from a play style that particular unit used to find a home in.

Whatever the reason, this segment seeks to spotlight these units, extol their virtues and strengths, discuss frankly their weaknesses, and if possible make a case for putting together a list that celebrates that unit and its contribution (even if it's just a bit of fluffy fun). I will of course lead by example by attempting to put together a viable 1500 list for any unit I spotlight, as well as playing it for a batrep. Letting either Nick or Alex likely smash me into a paste as a result.

As a sign of my commitment to this endeavour, On Monday I'll be running a list featuring a unit I've never actually seen played; the humble mercury scout drone for PHR.

Preamble out of the way, let's get into the Mercury and see what makes it tick.
